Description
The 7 1/2 mile trek (1-way) took us around 3 1/2 hours to hike, or about 8 hours total. The trail crosses the river 23 times each way, but for the most part the water is shallow and you can see where you are stepping. Word to the wise...take a walking stick and be careful on the extremely slippery rocks! I would suggest packing some water, bug repellant, and a few energy bars as well. The river is about 50+ feet across most of the way, and is cold and refreshing during the summer. We encountered a large black bear along the trail (Memorial Day 2007), which didn\'t want anything to do with us. We camped 1 1/2 miles into the trail, and there are numerous other sites along the way. Not a difficult trail at all. If you take the dog, watch out for the trail biscuits left by the horses along the trail. They are irresistable to dogs. Watch for snakes. Expect to get wet, and enjoy my new favorite trail! Please do not litter. Keep nature untamed.

Directions to Hike
It takes about 2 hours from Atlanta to the trailhead: From Atlanta, take I-75 North to Exit 333. Turn right onto 52 and travel for approx 13 miles. Turn Left onto 411 for approx 12 miles. Turn Right onto state road 2 (the road beside the church on the right), which is paved for about a mile. Keep following SR2 on the dirt road for about 8 miles, and look for the signs to the trailhead. Take your license and registration....the rangers were stopping every car about a mile down the dirt road.
