Description
The Florida Trail is a 1300 mile long trail begining near Miami and running to Pensacola in the western panhandle. Hikers have extended the hike by starting in Key West and road walking to the beginning of the trail. This adds another 150 or so miles to the length. In 1986 the FTA was registered as the the Florida National Scenic Trail. Despite what the other reviewer mentioned Florida is home to a very large population of Bald Eagles and you will have opportunity to see many other types of wildlife. I have seen deer, racoon, possum, otters, many different bird species, alligators of course and the Florida Short Horned Elk (Cows). The trail crosses prairies, pine and hard wood forests, swamps, rivers, creeks and hills. It has everything except mountains.

The trail is orange blazed with side trails blazed in blue. Contact the FTA for more info.

Directions to Hike
There are many points of entry. AAA maps of Florida show the trail as a blue dotted line.
