This is a really nice piece of the AT through Conn. I like to make it a hike/bike trip because it affords a really nice ride along U.S. Route 7 as it follows the Housatonic River. There is also a nice village, West Cornwall, that is worth investigating. I park my car where the AT crosses route 7 south of Falls River, CT and bike south 10 miles to Cornwall Bridge. There I turn right on Rte. 4 and head upthe hill. Take the first right on Old Sharon Road, an unpaved road, and watch carefully for a tree on the right that denotes where the trail crosses the road. It's about 3/10 of a mile from Rte. 4. I stash my bike in the woods and hike north back to my car. It's an 11 mile hike back with nice views, woods walks and even through some lowlands with a couple beaver ponds. It's a lot of up/down but the hills aren't that big as to make it an arduous task. Going south to north as I described you do more down than up (1725 ft up vs 1991 ft down). There are several streams along the way but I reccomend purifying before you drink. This is a great walk in all seasons but really nice in the fall. Don't forget to go back for your bike when you finish.
