Description
From Denver to Durango, the Colorado Trail winds 472 miles through some of Colorado's finest wilderness. It crosses the Continental Divide five times, and passes through seven National Wilderness Areas. The trail ranges in elevation from 5000 to 13300 feet. The last 150 miles pass through the stunning San Juan and La Garita Mountains, the climax mountains of Colorado. The trail is divided into segments, ranging from 9 to over 25 miles in length, usually between roads or highways. It was designed for climbs of 10 degrees or less, and is intended for the use of all hikers, including those who are not hardy. The stronger through-hikers, though, will find it plenty demanding. For those who are able to hike it in one trip, expect the trek to take about six weeks. They will be the best six weeks you'll have had in a long time!

Directions to Hike
From Denver International Airport, take I-25 south to Colorado 470. Take Colo. 470 west to Wadsworth Blvd. Go south on Colo. 121 to the road marked "Waterton Canyon". Arrive in a minute or so at the Denver terminus of the Colorado. The first six miles is on a dirt road. After that, you're in the woods.
