A portion of the trail is steep before it traverses an open meadow to the lake. Groves of large aspen line the trail and several beaver dams can be seen in the area. The lake is bordered by wooded hillsides and a sheer mountain face. Minerals deposited at the inlet of the lake give it its milky color. I personally hiked this and it was a great workout for a first season hike. I normally do this as my second or later hike. There is quite an uphill climb but it's great and challenging. After passing through a meadow you reach the lake and there are beautiful storms that come over the mountain. You're so close and the colors are fabulous after September 15th. Large/tall Aspens Everywhere!
