Trailhead is at Green Creek, up a 8 mile dirt road through sage and scrub eventually flattening out into nice Meadows. The first 3 miles or so is beautiful. Lots of aspens and pines, very cool and shady with Green creek running just feet away from the trail most of the time. It steepens up a bit as you get closer to Green Lake with some fairly easy switchbacks. Trees thin out and you get alot of sun before the lake. Decision time...When you get to the trail marker for Green/East Lake (left) or West Lake (right) you have to weigh your options. Taking the Green/East route is a moderate climb, the lakes (Green, East, Gillman, Hoover, Summit) are spaced less than a mile apart. I stayed at hoover and had the place to myself last year- GREAT brown trout fishing, albeit small. The West Lake option is a KILLER! Exposed, rocky, hot, dusty, STEEP! You'll get to a small pond prior to West lake and think "what the hell! I climbed up here for this!" Fret not, West lake is just a short jaunt to the north east. Beautiful lake, snow is August. BITCH of a climb. I'll be there in mid August!
