This is the highest peak (9952') outside of the nearby San Gorgonio Wilderness. Its also less crowded, and no permit required, making it a great alternative hike. First 2 1/2 miles parallels slow moving Green Canyon creek (somewhat reliable water source through summer)and is shaded by pines, cedars & oaks. After 2 1/2 miles it reaches the ridgeline, with great views to the south upper slopes of Mt San Gorgonio. Take the trail heading west along the undulating (up & down hiking!) ridge through thinning lodgepole pines and you'll eventually reach the flat, marked summit. Summit views are obscured by sparse tree cover, but by walking 50-100 ft north or south you get great views of Mt San 'G' and the Big Bear/Lucerne Valley areas.
