Ostrander Lake- Yosimite National Park. The hike to Ostrander Lake is easily accomplished in one day, provided you get an early start. The trail begins with minimal elevation change, passing through several meadows. After approximately two miles, you begin your accent for an elevation change of 1500 ft. There are few to none, water sources after the meadows, so water up for the last part of the hike. After approximately 6 miles you reach Ostrander Lake. The crowds are moderate to heavy in the summer time, and sparce in the early fall. Brook trout are plentiful for the avid fisher. Marmont and Bears still present problems so store your food properly. A short boulder sramble to the top of Horseback Ridge (another 900 ft) above the lake, provides beautiful views of the surounding mountian ranges.
