This is an urban trail, just a few miles from central San Diego but remote enough (in parts) to give the impression of remoteness. There are well defined trails leading from the parking areas but the real fun begins when following the barely perceptible foot paths at the end of the trail. Follow the river as far as you like, scale the rock walls bordering the river. Not a bad fishing spot but definitely not edible. No special gear; I often walk it in slippers or tennies. No brush more than calf-high.
