Great backpacking or day hike. 6.6 miles one way. Minimal water during route. Hike starts out easy through meadows and tree lined hills. First ascent is a hill called cardiac hill. Steep climb but short (1/2 mile), takes up to tree line and you cut through the trees on to the granite mountains. Once you get there, there are plenty of places to set camp near the shore. There is a ranger on site in the hut so make sure you have a bear cannister with you as well as your wilderness permit. I am an avid fisher and the fishing is exceptional especially for the lack of fish normally in Yosemite lakes.
