If you've done the Lost Coast Trail before, love the King Range, and want something different, try this. Instead of driving down to Shelter Cove, turn right at the top of the last big hill onto King Peak Road. Take this decent dirt road several miles out to Saddle Mountain Road, a left turn, and follow this for four miles of okay dirt road to the Saddle Mountain Trailhead. Permits are self-issue at the trailhead. From trailhead, hike on the King Crest Trail--great views of the ocean--along the ridgeline and over King Peak for seven miles to the Rattlesnake Trail. Hike down this a mile to Bear Hollow Camp. This is a good place for the first night; there's a good year-round spring here. The next morning, hike down the eight-five switchbacks to Big Flat Creek and follow the trail out to Big Flat and the Ocean. Either stay at Big Flat or hike another three miles south on the beach to Buck Creek--a great camp. The next morning, climb the steep Buck Creek Trail from the camp at Buck, five miles back to your car. It's a great way to see more of the King Range. Bear cans are required.
