Description
This is the most strenuous trail I have ever hiked. It is 3.5 miles long one-way. The trailhead is near the Sunnyside Campground at Yosemite national park. The trail is steep immediately past the trailhead. When we reach the lower yosemite falls, the trail descends as steeply as it ascended. It is flat for a while and it begins to ascend steeper than before. The trail has been constructed on the face of a steep wall
of granite. The view of the valley from the trail and the views that you would get from the top of Yosemite falls is well worth all the effort. We camped at the top for two nights. There are a lot of pre-used campsites about 200 ft away from the trail near the river. We made campfire with dead wood and were bear-aware. We had taken bear-bells, rope and some rucksacks. All food was carried in only one bag and was hung from a tall tree when we were not eating. Never let the tent and the backpack touch the food. We didn't see any bear though. From the campsite, you can hike to the Yosemite Point, tip of the waterfalls (you will die if you try to cross the stream when there is a lot of water flowing). We reached the _tip_ at the top of the waterfalls. A wonderful view of the valley and the steep vertical drop of the waterfalls. The rocks are as slippery as ice in some places near the tip. Yosemite Point is about a mile away from the camping area. You could also hike along the river, upstream. You can swim in some waterholes. Again, you could die doing it when there the river carries a lot of water during spring and summer. There was hardly any water in the river during the labor day weekend. We were constantly being troubled by zillions of wasps. Got stung once. You could do this hike in a day too.. it is just strenuous.

Directions to Hike
Yosemite National Park. The trailhead is well-marked at the Sunnyside walk-in campground. Backpacker's parking lot is far away from this campsite. You would have to take your backpacking equipment from the car, take the Yosemite shuttle and reach the Sunnyside campground. There is a lot less crowd in September. So, there was ample parking space near the cottages across the road from the campground.
