Description
In the San Gorgonio Wilerness area. Begin from wash at ~ 6100 feet: a steep ascent to 7200 through Black and Canyon live oaks, to a forest of incense cedars surrounding the creek. Quickly moves through Jeffrey and Ponderosa pines to white pines in the next steep ascent, 9600 feet. Several campsites along the way, ample water if you plan to hit the summit of San Gorgonio Mountain, 11,499, but beyond that, not much water (in summer). A very strenuous hike and beautiful as well. But it does show off the Southland's smog problem all too well.

Directions to Hike
Take the 10 to the Redlands area, take the 38 north, to Valley of the Falls Blvd. Park at the Vivian Creek parking lot. Don't forget to pick up your permit at the Mill Creek ranger station along the 38.
