Description
This is a beautiful area where you will see interesting geologic features and amazing views. It does involve crossinng Hwy 88 twice. The trail north of Highway 88 is 3.3 miles long and relatively easy. The trail follows a portion of the old highway, crosses Hwy 88 then climbs up to the ridgeline near Castle Point. The portion of the trail south of Highway 88 is more difficult. suitable for mt bikes and horses. Beautiful views of Kirkwood Ski Resort. Bugs in spring so bring repellent. Dispersed camping at Martin Meadow or the 2 campgrounds near Silver Lake.

Directions to Hike
Take Hwy 88 from Jackson, CA (or Nevada)and park at either the Horse Canyon Trailhead or the Thunder Mt. Trailhead on the south side of Hwy 88 between Silver and Caples Lake. of course if you are coming from Nevada trailheads are on the north side of Hwy 88.
