Start at Tuolumne Meadows (8600 ft.). Take Glen Aulin trail and continue down the Tuolumne River into the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne. Spectacular soaring granite walls surround you as you pass several water falls. At Pate Valley (4300 ft. and a couple of miles short of the Hetch Hetchy reservoir) follow the trail south and up 3700 ft out of the canyon to White Wolf. September is a good time to go as Pate Valley is not too hot and the mosquitos have dissapated. However, the waterfalls will be more impressive earlier in the season. The hike can be done in three days (brutal) or four days (strenuous). The direction can be reversed, but the long and very steep descent from White Wolf the first day would be pretty hard on the knees.
