Peter, 12/19/07 "it was cool"
Soul Shaker, 09/27/06 "Very little wood for a fire. Make sure you shut upstairs door in winter, snow will get in. Have been bit by spiders, a bug bomb would be great. Other than that it is great to stay in the oldest and highest firemans warden cabin east of the Miss. River."
pjbarr, 09/20/06 "This shelter is great, among my favorites. But it has no views to speak of, as above reported. Many nearby several miles south, but not at the shelter."
Blacksheep, 03/27/05 "WOW! Highest shelter on the trail, spectacular views, good water source, FOUR walls and ZERO mice. Favorite shelter I've stayed in...especially after that hike up Roan! "
Glimmer, 03/21/07 "It was ok. Nice loft. Stayed warm in 30 degree weather. "
Bill Tabbot, 01/19/08 "Does this shelter still exist? (As of January 19, 2008) This was a favorite shelter of mine when I was in high school and college (1977 - 1985). But I was told that the US Forest Service tore it down and you are not allowed to camp anywhere on Roan Mountain anymore. ... Is this true? ... Please post any information anyone may have on this. I would love to know. ..." Please feel free to add your own comments. Fill in your name, comments, and rate this shelter on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest.
