"From Mountain Club of Maryland Website:

The Mountain Club of Maryland will replace the Darlington shelter on the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania with a new, larger shelter. The present shelter requires massive rehabilitation making a new shelter a more practical option.
On June 19,2004 the present shelter will be demolished to make room for the new shelter in the same location. Weather permitting, the new shelter will be completed in 2005. Tent camping will be available in the meantime.
Along with the shelter replacement, a new composting privy will be built to replace the present pit privy to comply with newly enacted Pennsylvania health department rulings. The old privy will continue to be available until the new facility is complete.
