"This is not a top-end shelter or location by any stretch of the imagination. Yet, I have some fondness for it because it was where I spent my first night on my first-ever backpacking trip. No views to speak of (except trees), shelter is small and pretty old, and the water sources are iffy in the summer and fall (don't count on the springs being wet). There is a fairly large grassy camping area right next to the shelter, and on nice weekends you'll often have a group camping there, too. Thankfully, the difficult rock scramble over Bake Oven Knob tends to keep the rowdies and partiers away."

"my first camping trip ever, and we stayed here on the first night...it was quite a hike over bake ovens knob, but things were great...5 of us slept in the shelter and two set up a tent...i am looknig forward to going back sometime"

"Camp site not that great and spring was not wet on site. Had to trek down the mountain and back up just for water. Tough hike to get over Bake Oven Knob - vast rock fields, pretty stunning views. For intermediate and beyond hikers - some dangerous cliff areas you need to hike on with pack. Had a good time though =)"

"I was just happy that the roof didn't leak. It may be a scramble for the partiers, but from the looks of the register, they make it there OK. I had it to myself in April, but was happy to move on."

"The top of the Bake Oven Knob has the most beautiful view in Eastern Pennsylvania. It's only a 20 minute hike to the top. Its a little rough, but well worth it."

"Group of 4 of us camped at the shelter in 1975. Have never been back since. We left in the middle of the night, back to parking lot and left. Something in the woods about 500 ft over the other side of the ridge scared the hell of of us.We all saw "it". Don't know what it was, but got a real bad feeling about it. Bad enough to get out of there fast. Just be careful."
