Description
Dale Oliver's trail description of this trail is fairly accurate, so I will not elaborate on too many details. As of June 2006 the trail needs to be maintained. There were several times when I lost the trail due to overgrowth or bc the tree marks have faded. Courteous hikers have helped by marking the trail with rock pyramids and logs. The best thing about the trail is how three quarters of the way up the mountain, the large pines and oaks almost instantaneously give way to midgit oaks and pines. I've heard that near the top of the mountain is a side trail that goes to a cemetary, but I couldn't find it. Since the main trail is overgrown, I shouldn't expect side trails to be too easy to find, though. If you are planning to spend the night, do not plan to stay at the end of the trail. I planned to do so and found the top of the mountain too thick with the oaks and too rocky. Even my hammock didn't work. The trail ends with a great view of the valley, which runs east and west. This would be a great spot to view the sunset if you can find the way back at night. The actual top of the mountain is about 50 yards beyond the trail end. It is difficult to get to due to boulders and thick oaks but I recommend the bushwhack. You'll be rewarded with a great view of over 180 degrees. For a VERY fast short cut on the way down take the mule trail, which will be about a mile from the summit and to your right. It spits at the bottom of the hill; take a left and it hits the highway near a general store. Overall it was a fun hike with great views.

Directions to Hike
Take 71N from Mena and take a left on 270W at Acorn. The trail is 7-8 miles to your right.
