if you take away the milage of the pinoti trail (alabamas longest at 120 miles) you are left with about 8 miles of breath taking trails in the park. i really enjoyed hiking the "lake trail" which runs top to bottom. from the camp ground on top of the mountain 2,400+ (alabamas highest)to a lake that sits at 1000 above sea level. the trail was in great condition with no trash and great panoramic views of the talladega national forest. the park also offered a 1/4 mile wheel chair accecable boardwalk trail that leaves you with a great view off the mountain side. if you have never noticed the true start off the applachian mountains begin here in southeastern alabama. check it out and be amazed.if you are looking for more day hikes out of the state parks talk to the rangers about the waterfall trails in the national forest. well worth the short drive to the trail head. to sign a petition to extend the "AT" from springer in geariga to cheaha mountain in alabama go to www.alabamatrails.com
