Description
This is one of the most beautiful sites in Alabama. There is a road running along part of the rim of the canyon, drive the road first to see it from above. Then hike down to the floor. There are no desginated trails, we got some other hikers to show us the way down. Once you get down you can hike along the river for miles, over rock beds in some sections and bush-wacking in others. There are large pools, rocks to jump from, and huge (24" and up) stripped bass. The canyon is 500-800 feet deep, and has rock faces up to 300 ft. If you hike up some of the side branches of the canyon there are water falls and other cool stuff. Explore and enjoy yourself.

Directions to Hike
About 2 hours north of Birmingham on I59. Simply follow the signs to the canyon, the top on the Mt. above Ft. Payne.

Contact Information
This is a National Preserve, you can get more information on it (remember there are no offical trails) from the National Park Service web site.
