Granite Tors Trail access to alpine tundra, large granitic tors and views of the Alaska Range and Chena River Valley. From the trailhead at Tors Trail Campground take the walkway accross the bridge and cross the road. Follow the levee for 1/4 mile to a bulletin board and a fork in the trail, forming the east and west trails. Take the east trail doing the loop in a clockwise direction. The trail follows the Chena River through White and black spruce forests, with board walks through boggy areas. After crossing rock creek the trail turns left following the creek, taking you past its many beaver dams to the first mile marker where it begins to climb. From here the trail climbs through birch and aspen for a mile. Continue along the ridge through black spruce the trail drops through two saddles before reaching treeline around mile five. Watch for blueberries along the ridge. Just before the sixth mile a 1/2 mile spur trail leads to two small groups of tors. Water can often be found along the spur and at a very small spring near mile six. From here the trail is marked with rock cairns as it traverses a talus slope across Munson Ridge. After dropping through a saddle the trail heads through an apline meadows, here the east trail ends and a less developed trail marked with wooden tripods takes you to the Plain of Monuments and the west trail at mile nine. An shelter is located near mile seven. The trail winds through granite tors, as it drops into a saddle emerging on a treeless rigde. From here is your best view of the numerous outcroppings before dropping to the Lizard's eye, the last group of tors on the trail around mile ten. From here the trail drops through a blck spruce saddle thick with blueberries. At mile eleven the trail drops back down to rock creek for the next three miles. For the last two miles you'll travel mainly on boardwalks as you travel through black spuce forest to the levee and the trail head.
