The Harding ice field hike is a \"must to do\" on your itinerary. This strenuous 7.7 mile offers great views of the exit glacier as you hike up the trail and the magnificent view of the harding ice field as you to get to the top. There are abundant opportunity to see black bears in this trail. The first 1.5 miles is nothing but hiking over steep slick slopes with no great views. As you hike further, the views begins to open and what you are about to view is simply incredible. Lots of bear scats all over the trail. we managed to see one black bear at a distance and and while coming back down on the switch backs, a group of people at a distance waved at us and alarmed us to watch out for the huge black bear which was just 10 feet away from us. He stared at us for a second and moved away amicably. The views are awesome and you would love to spend some time on the top enjoying the views. On the way down, watch out for slick slopes.there are high chances that you might slip down. We were extremely fortunate to have had the best weather on the day of our hike. Overall, the hike is absolutely worth the initial effort you put on climbing the trail.
